Brazil in distress in the face of the virus

The situation is more than worrying in Brazil. Records of deaths from the coronavirus are falling one after the other and the country this week almost crossed the mark of 2,000 daily victims. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 11.2 million Brazilians have been infected with the coronavirus, for more than 270,000 deaths. The second most affected country in the world, after the United States and its 530,320 deaths.

Why is this worrying. According to Jesem Orellana, a Brazilian epidemiologist interviewed by AFP and quoted by France 24: “the fight against Covid-19 was lost in 2020 and there is not the slightest chance of reversing this tragic scenario during the first semester 2021 ”. On March 4, the city of Sao Paulo declared a new lockdown when President Jair Bolsonaro continues to minimize the impact of the virus. Hope comes from the Covid-19 vaccine, where nearly 3 million Brazilians have already received at least one dose, or 1.42% of the country.
