Brazil Donates Record Amount of Vaccines and Medicines to Suriname, Strengthening International Relations

On March 11, 2024, the Brazilian Ambassador to Suriname, Raphael Azeredo, handed over a record amount of vaccines and medicines to Suriname on behalf of the Brazilian government. This is the largest donation ever from Brazil to Suriname. Minister Ramadhin has emphasized Suriname’s deep gratitude for this generous donation.

He stated that this donation will meet all the needs of the country for the next two years. The Minister praised Brazil’s continued commitment to global and regional health initiatives and emphasized that this donation is not only an act of solidarity but also contributes to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Despite the dengue outbreak, which has taken a major toll in Brazil, the Brazilian government has decided to contribute to the health care of its neighboring country, Suriname. Ambassador Azeredo underscored Brazil’s commitment to supporting health initiatives globally and in the region.

He confirmed that this donation is an expression of the good relations between Brazil and Suriname, and the importance of cooperation in the field of health care. Since 2006, Brazil has been committed to humanitarian cooperation initiatives with Suriname, especially in the field of health.

This collaboration has resulted in significant donations of medicines, vaccines and medical supplies to Suriname. This long-term collaboration has made an important contribution to improving healthcare in Suriname and strengthening ties between the two countries.

The vaccines received have now arrived and are stored at the Public Health Agency (BOG) and will be distributed to the community through existing institutions. The estimated value of this donation is US$860,000.
