Branch was formed from hectoliters of Pilsner beer not drunk due to coronavirus

Prazdroj distilled beers from the specialized Brewers’ Choice program because they have a higher alcohol content.

“This is the first time we have decided to make brandy. We wanted to use beer, for the production of which top raw materials were used and in which there is a large amount of human labor. It would have to be spilled after the expiration date. We take it as an interesting test of how to use a raw material that was actually destined for disposal, described the manager of the tourism department of Plzeňský Prazdroj Rudolf Šlehofer.

Ten hectoliters of beer from the Choice of Brewers remained in the brewery. The brewers had it transported to a liqueur in Prádle near Nepomuk, where a hundred liters of Plzeňská pivní pálenka were made from beer by slow distillation.

Jan Šteinigl from the L´Or laundry liqueur stated that the distillate has a bready aroma and a taste of beer foam. “The optimal raw material is multi-stage beer, at least eleven-stage beer, but better is stronger. Once we even made it from twenty-one degrees. If it is made from twelve, about ten liters of beer are needed to make a liter of 50% beer brandy. The end result is a grain distillate in which you can smell hops, “said Steinigl.

The Pilsen brewery had the used beer burnt through for the first time and the experiment worked. Manager Šlehofer pointed out that if the first brandy is sold in the Pilsen brewery store, they could have it fired in small quantities in the future. He reminded that the brewery is trying to make maximum use of other residual raw materials after beer production. They started to make crackers from malt, after cleaning they repeatedly use water in technical operations.

Most spring unsold beer due coronavirus restrictions and closed pubs breweries throughout the country must be disposed of ecologically. Even the liquidation itself costs something.

“We tried to ensure that the beer that had to be disposed of had another use. In the wastewater treatment plant, they produced biogas from it, which serves as a source of energy for the operation of the treatment plant itself, “concluded Šlehofer.
