Braga cyclists pedal to help young mother who suffered stroke

A 58-year-old man was arrested in Vila Verde on Friday to serve an effective 16-year prison sentence for qualified homicide, GNR said.

Speaking to O MINHO, source of public relations of GNR reports that the man was wanted not only in Portuguese territory, but throughout the Schengen area, for being convicted of qualified homicide, in a crime dating back to 1999, in Arcos de Valdevez.

The crime, THE MINHO knows, occurred in a nightclub that the man ran, having kidnapped, tortured and murdered an official in that space.

The same source explains that this murder was committed during a precarious departure of the individual, who at the time [em 1999], was arrested in Coimbra jail for extortion, drug trafficking and other crimes related to human trafficking and prostitution.

In 2002, the man was again in precarious condition, but eventually escaped, not returning to the prison establishment.

In 2003, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison for qualified murder, but never surrendered. Due to suspicions that it was in Spain, an international arrest warrant was issued, which was still in force.

The same source explains that the man was detained by the military, this Friday, following an intervention by the emergency services, after he felt bad, in a dwelling where he lived with relatives, in Vila Verde.

After a confusion with the identity of the detainee, who did not appear to be true, one of the family members indicated that the man would have outstanding problems with the court, so the GNR was called.

Once on the scene, the military found that the man was on the run from jail, had an international arrest warrant and was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The detainee was taken to the Braga Prison.

Killed 17-year-old employee

According to the ruling of the Supreme Court of Homicide in 1999, quoted by Lusa, the defendant suspected that his 13-year-old daughter would have a relationship with the victim, including sex.

In mid-1999, the defendant dismissed the 17-year-old victim and decided to give him a “beating” with the help of two other men.

The victim was taken to a bar in Rio de Moinhos, Arcos de Valdevez, where she was beaten “indiscriminately with punches and batons, all over her body”.

The defendant now arrested used a whip and a wooden staff and beat the victim for about an hour, only stopping “when he had no strength left”.

He left the victim in a bar room, after which hours later he put the corpse in the trunk of a car and was taken to a building where they lived in Fafe, where blood was poured into the garage.

He then went to the Fafe Hospital, where he handed over the corpse, and soon after went to the GNR, mentioning that his son had been the perpetrator of the murder in the garage.

As for the other two men who participated in the assaults, one was sentenced to 1 year and 5 months in prison and the other to 1 year.

One of them is the son of the defendant now arrested.

Under the age of 16, he was placed to help “manage” his father’s nightlife establishments.
