“BP Faces US$700 Million Penalty for Delayed Tangguh Train 3 LNG Project”

Jakarta

Oil giant from England, BP will be subject to a hefty penalty. This is because the Tangguh Train 3 LNG project has experienced delays.

Deputy for Finance and Commercialization of SKK Migas Kurnia Chairi said the projected penalty due to project delays is US$ 700 million or around Rp. 10.36 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 14,800).

“So for the penalty due to Tangguh’s delay yesterday, our projection is around US$ 700 million, there must be a penalty,” he said as quoted Tuesday (18/4/2023).

He continued, that figure could be renegotiated. He added, the figure could be reduced by around US$ 300 million.

“But then various efforts were made to renegotiate it, rearrange the schedule, so US$ 300 million could be saved,” he said.

In line with that, he said, his party also continues to negotiate with buyers.

“This means that we don’t just accept the delay figure of US$ 700 million, but we try to continue to have discussions and negotiations with our fellow buyers,” he said.
