The Boston Celtics have formalized the agreement with Kristaps Porzingis for two years and 60 million dollars. In this way, the Latvian will be under contract until 2025-2026 for a total of 96 million, as reported to ESPN his agents Jeff Schwartz and Janis Porzingis.
The center arrived in Massachusetts in a three-way trade that included the transfer of Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies. For the negotiation to take place, Porzingis had to exercise the player option for 36 million dollars in 2023-2024.
“I think these are the best years for a basketball player,” the 27-year-old center said at a press conference. «My body is maturing, reaching this age helped me. I think I have some great and high-level years ahead of me,” he added.
Porzingis reached career highs last year in points (23.2), shooting from the field (49 percent) and assists (2.7). In addition, he had his second-highest 38 percent shooting percentage, behind only the 39 he had in 2017-2018 with the New York Knicks. It was an encouraging season for someone who has suffered significant injuries in the past.
