Boston and Leipzig Symphony Orchestras extend contracts with conductor Nelson – Classical – Music – Culture +

After a three-year extension, Nelson will remain the musical director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra until the 2024-2025 season. His current eight-year contract would have expired in August 2022.

Nesson also announced the continuation of the alliance of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Gewandhausorchester until 2025.

This year, for the first time since its founding in 1881, the Boston Symphony Orchestra canceled the fall season due to a new coronavirus pandemic.

In 2014, Nelson was named musical director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He is the 15th person to hold this position.
