The contract, which would have actually run until 2024, was terminated with immediate effect. The club confirmed this on Thursday on its Website.
“We are all aware that things have not developed as hoped for Borussia Dortmund and Nico Schulz in recent years. Nevertheless, we wish Nico all the best for his sporting and personal future,” said Kehl.

The Bundesliga club thus saves 3.5 million euros because the club no longer has to pay a salary to the player who has not been used for more than a year.
This amounted according to “Bild” to about six million euros per year.

In 2019, Schulz came to Dortmund as an up-and-coming star from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and was given a five-year contract.
But the liaison with BVB did not develop as both parties had imagined. Since 2019, the native of Berlin has only made 56 competitive appearances.
Under the current coach Edin Terzic (40), who has been a BVB coach for a year, the ex-national player was no longer considered. His last competitive game was on May 7, 2022!

But what club wants to buy a player who has no match practice? In the end, Dortmund were so desperate that they probably would have given Schulz away for free.
In winter, they were even willing to continue paying the player’s salary if he just plays and trains elsewhere.

But now the BVB bosses were apparently able to persuade their “problem player” to cancel the contract for an immediate bonus.
“Ruhr24” has calculated that the transfer flop cost BVB 65.5 million euros. That makes over one million euros per competitive game.
For Nico Schulz, on the other hand, things were not going so bad financially. The ex-Gladbach player took almost half a million euros with him for each competitive game.
These are worlds in which Lionel Messi (36) or Cristiano Ronaldo (38) otherwise move.
It is not known whether Schulz has already found a new club. In any case, its market value has plummeted.
