Kiev (Ucrania) (AFP) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a video released on Sunday a day after his unexpected visit to kyiv that he had traveled by train from Poland to the Ukrainian capital, paying tribute to the “iron people”.

“Good morning, I’m Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, I’m traveling on a fantastic Ukrainian Railways train from Poland to kyiv,” he announces in the video, in which he appears standing on board a train, dressed in white shirt and a navy blue sweater.

“They are called here +the iron people+. It is in relation to their profession, but it also reflects their mentality, a true mentality that the Ukrainians demonstrate by resisting the horrible Russian aggression,” Johnson continued.

He also presented his condolences to the railwaymen, victims of a missile on Friday against a train station in Kramatorsk, in eastern Ukraine, which caused 52 deaths, including five children, who were preparing to flee.

Boris Johnson made an unexpected trip to kyiv on Saturday, promising Ukraine new weapons.

This visit was not publicly announced by either party. It is the first time since the beginning of the Russian invasion that a G7 leader has traveled to Ukraine.
