Bonjour, Citroen cars return to Indonesia

Citroen has officially set foot in Indonesia. The French manufacturer is making a comeback after taking part in the country for the last time in the 1990s.

Citroen’s return to Indonesia was announced at a press conference held in Jakarta on Tuesday (4/10), WIB afternoon. This is Citroen’s comeback after being last registered in Indonesia in 1994.

Almost 30 years missing from the domestic car market, Citroen is back under the aegis of the Indomobil Group. Of note, Indomobil has previously overseen several car brands in Indonesia, such as Suzuki, VW, Kia, Nissan, Audi, Hino and Volvo Trucks in the industrial vehicle sector.

The relaunch of Citroen was attended by Andrew Nasuri, Head of Business Development, Indomobil Group; Vincent Cobée, CEO of Citroën, and Carl Smiley, Stellantis Chief Operating Officer for India and the Asia-Pacific region.

“We are very proud to announce the strategic partnership of Indomobil and Stellantis which will introduce and develop the Citroën brand in Indonesia. Through Indomobil Wahana Trada, we will market stylish vehicles and offer reliable after-sales service to build a brand here,” said Andrea Nasuri .

“This appointment marks a milestone reflecting the strong partnership between the Stellantis Group and the Indomobil Group as we inaugurate this business,” he continued.

Upon returning to Indonesia, Citroen immediately brought three cars. The cars are the Citroen C5 Aircross, the Citroen New C3 and the Citroen e-C4 electric car.

Citroen history

Citroen was born in 1919 after Andre Citroen presented his car. Throughout its history Citroen has been known as a brand that offers premium comfort.

Citroen is also known for its hydropneumatic suspension technology, which has now been developed into air suspension. This technology makes the car comfortable and stable to drive.

In 1991, Citroën was acquired by Peugeot and merged into PSA Peugeot Citroën. PSA Peugeot Citroën subsequently changed its name to Groupe PSA (PSA Group), or Stellantis, in 2016.

Citroën officially left Indonesia in 1994, when Citroen left its factory located in Cakung.
