He has already talked to the president about his will to leave Poland PZPN – Cezary Kulesza. – This is extremely irresponsible behavior, inconsistent with the previous declarations of the trainer. The contract with Sousa is very good. So says Boniek
– Zbigniew Boniek often says that human resources are the problem of Polish football. In his opinion, there is a lack of competent and strong people to perform the most important functions. Meanwhile, as the president of the Polish Football Association, he fell in resource management. For the last two selectors, he chose coaches completely unsuitable for this. Jerzy Brzęczek lacked competences – mainly the soft ones. Paulo Sousie ran out of the rules he talked about so much – loyalty and responsibility – writes in an article on Sport.pl, Dawid Szymczak. The former president of the Polish Football Association decided, however, that he did not make a mistake in hiring Sousa. – I feel strange with this situation. I made him a coach because he’s a smart guy for me. He bought players. At a fatal moment, he took over the staff. He put it together. “50 out of 50” came out in a sporty way. The minimum task was to advance to the play-offs. It worked – he told Roman Kołtonia.
According to Sport.pl, the Sousa – PZPN contract in this specific situation perfectly protects Sousa, but puts the Polish side in a very difficult situation. It does not provide for a situation in which the Portuguese would want to terminate the contract – there are no contractual penalties or a possible withdrawal clause. However, if the Polish side wanted to dismiss Sousa, it would be necessary to pay him all his salaries until the end of the contract.
Zbigniew Boniek argues that the contract with the Portuguese could not have been different. – The contract is very good, but does not provide for the departure of the coach – the vice president assessed the situation absurdly UEFA (it is Sousa who has all the cards in his hands, unlike the Polish Football Association, what we wrote about here >>). And later explained that Sousa could not take up any other job while his contract with the Polish Football Association was in force. Otherwise, it is subject to certain procedures. – There are maybe five options for terminating this contract, but there are no penalties. It’s a good deal. Saying that you can enter a penalty in the contract is ridiculous – added Boniek.
Why is there no protection of the interests of the Polish Football Association in the contract? Boniek said that such provisions do not apply, because each trainer could pay a certain amount and leave overnight. And in this situation, according to Boniek, the union could keep the Portuguese, but he cannot imagine it himself. – If I were the president, in this situation I would not have imagined further cooperation. We are all deceived, whatever to say. Unfortunately, sometimes it is like that in life – said Zbigniew Boniek.
Zbigniew Boniek also feels disappointed
– If he only thought about the national team, he would not have told the manager to act. It hurts me. There is one aspect here, he wants to leave because they give him more money. 90% of people who criticize Sousa, if they were given 3-4 times the cash, they would probably do the same. I also feel disappointed. He could have played it differently, that’s a fact. What hurt me the most was what he said in interviews around December 14 – Boniek referred to the Portuguese’s assurances that he intended to lead the Polish team until the World Cup in Qatar.
Later, however, the UEFA vice-president added that perhaps Sousa did want to stay with the national team in mid-December. He wondered if the proposal from Flamengo came later. Nevertheless, he stated that the Portuguese had made a compromising move. – I’m not broken, I was when we lost to Slovakia. I have not been the president since August 18. I haven’t spoken to him. I don’t know if there were bad relations with the Polish Football Association. Even if it is not the fault of the relationship – commented Zbigniew Boniek.
Many people accused Bońek of agreeing that Sousa would not have to live in Poland. And his fault was also the fact that Paulo did not watch matches Ekstraklasa. – I saw him at matches in Szczecin, Poznań, at the Polish Cup and Super Cup. Today we live in such a world that we cannot contract a foreign trainer to live in Poland. For what? He’s supposed to stay home for six days? – the 65-year-old replied.
Boniek emphasized that despite all the confusion, he did not regret hiring Sousa. Now he is also looking for the positives of the current situation. – Maybe that’s better? I’m not going to cry. Maybe a better coach will come? Maybe he will win the play-offs and it will be his success. If not, the world will not collapse – emphasized the former head of Polish football. – In life it is always the case that when you make an important decision under the influence of money, it almost never brings you happiness – he concluded.
