Bolt launches electric bike sharing service in Paris and makes 500 bicycles available

Uber’s rival intends to recover the market abandoned by its competitor after the withdrawal of Jump electric bikes in the capital.

Bolt, Uber’s European rival, launched an electric bike sharing service in Paris on Wednesday July 1 and plans to roll out its offer in other European capitals during this year. “Our new sharing service for electric bikes will help meet the demand for individual, light and ecological modes of transport, which has grown due to the gradual lifting of containment due to Covid-19, said Dmitri Pivovarov, head of unit at Bolt, in a statement. The Estonian company is trying to recover a market left vacant by Jump, whose 5,000 electric bikes were removed on June 15.

Some 500 bikes are thus accessible through the Bolt app. For the launch, the unlocking costs of 1 euro are offered and the minute is priced at only 10 cents (against 20 cents in general for scooters). “We chose a very qualitative, relatively light (22 kg) and solid electric bike. It has large wheels, it is handy and its removable battery has a range of 65 km”, details Henri Capoul, the general manager of Bolt in France at Parisian.
