Bolt Food or a virus? Hackers imitated a popular app

The Bolt Food app is used to order food for delivery. In some cases, however, the desire to buy a meal may result in the loss of money from your bank account. All because hackers imitated a popular application.

Bolt Food is a popular application that allows you to order food delivered to your home. Unfortunately, hackers took it to the workshop and forged it, while targeting Polish users. By downloading the fake version of the Bolt Foods application, we are actually installing ERMAC 2.0, a Trojan.

ESET Research specialists pay attention to the action of the virus. Its purpose is to obtain login details for applications related to finance and cryptocurrencies. It poses a great threat to people using phones with Android installed.

The counterfeit Bolt Food app can be downloaded from a fairly well-crafted website. Right after installation, it asks for access to a number of permissions that allow the victim’s data to be stolen.

ESET Research reports that ERMAC 2.0 virus access is quite cheap. Currently, cybercriminals can buy it for as little as $ 5,000 a month.

Journalists of bleepingcomputer.com noticethat the virus has a problem with running on devices with Android version 11 and 12, so owners of newer phones can be a bit calmer.
