Bolkestein and Zalm support Rutte: “Above all, he must continue” | Inland

“I support Mark Rutte,” said Bolkestein after a turbulent week in which almost half of the House of Representatives gave up their confidence in Rutte because of ‘scout gate’. As far as the VVD prominent is concerned, Rutte can simply continue: “He is an excellent Prime Minister. Above all, he has to keep going. ”

Rutte is under fire because he had talked about CDA MP Pieter Omtzigt during the reconnaissance, but later denied it. Only the current government parties (VVD, CDA, D66 and CU) did not support the vote of no confidence against the prime minister that followed. But CU leader Gert-Jan Segers announced on Saturday that he would no longer want to be in a next cabinet if Rutte would lead it.

Bolkestein does not agree with the criticism of Rutte. “All those people who want to bite him in the calves are looking for nails at low tide,” he says.

Erica Terpstra, also an honorary member of the party, says she will not be involved in this since her departure from politics. She does not want to do that now, but she does state: “Be convinced: I am completely behind Rutte.”
