DRUGS AGAINST COVID-19

Meanwhile, the Bolivian government received at the Jorge Wilstermann airport in the city of Cochabamba a batch of 23 tons of drugs that help treat patients with covid-19 that were purchased directly from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Meheco Group, the Bolivian foreign minister reported. , Rogelio Mayta, quoted in a statement.

The batch consists of 1.2 million doses of eight drugs that are “essential” in the treatment of patients with Covid-19 who are in intensive care, according to the bulletin.

The Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Benjamin Blanco, indicated that thanks to the participation of the Bolivian and Chinese foreign ministries, it was possible to buy this batch of drugs “in the best conditions of purchase.”

“It should be noted that the participation of the Chinese Foreign Ministry was fundamental and this action is the result of the good diplomatic relations that Bolivia maintains with China,” said Blanco, according to the bulletin.

On Wednesday, a batch of 500,000 doses of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine arrived in the country, the largest batch of vaccines that has arrived in the country so far and extended its vaccination plan to medical personnel and the population at risk such as cancer patients or kidney problems. .

Of the 500,000 vaccines, 400,000 have been purchased by the Bolivian State and the rest have been donated by the Chinese Government.

For March, April and May, Bolivia awaits the arrival of more vaccines such as those of the Covax mechanism, Sputnik V and Oxford and AstraZeneca and thus reach 15.2 million doses that will be applied to some 7.5 million people over the age of 18 years and that, according to the Government, would be completed in September.

The first batch of 20,000 Russian Sputnik V vaccines arrived in the country at the end of January to immunize the health workers most exposed to the disease.

On the other hand, the doctors maintain their general strike in rejection of the Health Emergency law that is scheduled until this Sunday.

The National Health Council will meet on February 28 to determine if other pressure measures will be taken in rejection of that rule.

Regarding the provisions established in the new law, the medical sector opposes the restrictions on protest, the possibility of hiring foreign doctors, in addition to the confidentiality that the regulation grants to the processes of contracting goods and services, while governing the emergency declaration.
