The VIP lounge, a project undertaken by the Administrative Board responsible for managing ground handling (RACGAE), aims to reduce passenger stress and provide a more pleasant environment during their travels. Amidou Ouédraogo, the general supervisor of the works, expressed his joy at the completion of this project, referring to it as a “jewel” for Bobo-Dioulasso airport.
Passengers from all flights can access the VIP lounge by paying a fee of 5000 FCFA. This initiative aligns with the aspirations of President Captain Ibrahim Traoré to enhance the international airport of Bobo-Dioulasso. Mamadou Ouattara, technical adviser to the ministry in charge of transport, emphasized the importance of both airport managers and users taking great care of this new facility.
Saturnin Théophile Bikyenga, manager of Burkina ASECNA/DAN airports, commended RACGAE for their initiative, stating that passengers “deserve better than what we currently offer.” With the increasing number of regular flights by Air Burkina and Liz Aviation, the departure lounge is already facing saturation. Therefore, plans are underway to expand and improve the space to provide more comfort to passengers and their partners.
While specific timelines for the expansion project have not been disclosed, Bikyenga mentioned that preliminary studies have already commenced. He emphasized the need for thorough planning and research to ensure the success of such projects.
The design of the VIP lounge incorporates elements of Burkinabe culture, featuring decorations made from Kôkô Dunda, a giant painting depicting the great mosque of Dioulassoba, and cut tree trunks serving as low tables. This unique touch adds a local flavor to the lounge, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Burkina Faso.
