Boas are not happy with local experiments on corona measures

The boa union warns that enforcing local corona rules will become unnecessarily complicated if municipalities decide for themselves what is and what is not allowed. The only cities in the Netherlands announced Rotterdam and Amsterdam yesterday that they want to introduce a mouth mask obligation in some places.

Checking whether people are complying with this ends up on the board of boas, extraordinary investigating officers. Ruud Kuin, chairman of the BOA Bond, is concerned: “I fear that this will lead to a lot of discussion and even aggression.”

Proponent of mouth mask obligation

In principle, the union is not an opponent of a mask. “A mouth mask is easier to maintain than a meter and a half away,” says Kuin. But he would have preferred an unambiguous, national measure to apply. “This creates confusion among the public.”

“People have no objection to wearing a mask. I see that here too”, says Kuin from his holiday address in France. “But then it must be clear why the rules in a busy shopping street in Nijmegen are different from those in the Kalverstraat in Amsterdam.”

Regional experiments

About the regional differences in the enforcement of the corona rules, Kuin says: “Typically Dutch that it is left to the local government. They just disagree. And they are talking about ‘local customization’. I think that is nonsense . “

Boas are the responsibility of the mayors and the 25 security regions. Kuin: “The instructions have been different per region throughout the Netherlands since the beginning of the corona crisis.” For example, boas in one region may mainly warn when people do not follow the rules, while in other regions they immediately hefty fine got.

It is not yet clear when boas in the center of Rotterdam and Amsterdam will start checking for face masks.
