Cologne. Various reports have been discussed for years, but there is no progress in the green belt. The expansion of the billy goat home is becoming an endless topic for 1. FC Köln. Or is there going to be a big bang soon and the FC will completely move to a new location? On Thursday (November 4, 2021) the board of 1. FC Köln expressed itself again.
A letter to the members before the meeting on Saturday said: “The construction of the youth and license performance center at Geißbockheim is an extremely important building block for the future of the association. We waited over six years for the implementation, exceeded all requirements and were open to all discussions – even about alternative locations. At the end of autumn, after a processing time of seven months, the city let us know: Apart from the Geißbockheim, there is no place in Cologne for 1. FC Köln where construction could start before 2029 or 2030. “
Board of the 1. FC Köln annoyed by the city because of Geißbockheim
Marsdorf was being considered as an alternative location for a high-performance center, but after seven months, the city now says: No, that won’t work!
“1. FC Köln definitely wants to stay in Cologne. If the GRÜNE, CDU and Volt want that too, the time game for the Geißbockheim must now come to an end. We will give you more information about the situation on Saturday, ”the board continues to write to its members.
A few days ago, FC boss Wolf said in an interview with EXPRESS.de: “We took the parliamentary group leaders through our premises at the end of last season, and they were then quite affected. The dimension that we have been talking about for years they were not aware of until then. The youth sector no longer meets the demands that one would expect from a Bundesliga club – and the professional sector certainly does not. We have to do something, that is clear. So I think it’s good that Steffen Baumgart supports our course with so much enthusiasm and publicly denounces these grievances. “
