It is well known that style is the subjective domain par excellence. When the Series 2 Gran Coupé was discovered in the studio, the invited people, including myself, were skeptical of the design of the Series 2 Gran Coupé. So what was our surprise when we learned that it had been voted “most beautiful car of the year” at the last Automobile Festival. Inevitably this award made a lot of talk during the tests and the handful of journalists on the spot on this occasion still had trouble understanding the vote. At the risk of being hated by many of you, I still say that this 2 Series is far from being the most successful BMW. Thus, the front face is very close to the Series 1 with a grille composed of the two widened beans, but here slightly lower while the optics are very tapered with a visual signature now well known. Some typical features of the coupe category such as window panes or the pronounced fall of the flag are present here. Finally, it is the rear, which turns out to be the least successful part due to a more complex design with a rush that runs over the entire width, overlooking the very thin lights which extend slightly over the wings. in the style of Series 8. This presentation being made, we leave you to judge.

Unwelcoming, especially in the rear seats.
Another controversial subject is habitability. When you sit inside a 4.53 m sedan, you expect to enjoy roominess worthy of the name. This is not really the case. Legroom is ok but the central square is penalized by an imposing transmission tunnel. But the main complaint comes from the roof guard. If you measure more than 1.75 m, you cannot keep your head straight at the risk of touching the roof. A Mercedes CLA does better in this area. Same observation for the trunk. It offers a loading volume of 430 liters, 50 liters more than the Series 1. The CLA is more generous with 460 liters, but beware, these 30 liters less, are also due to a shorter length, which which explains this difference.
Very close to Series 1
In the passenger compartment, the differences with the Series 1 are slight since it is exactly the same dashboard, itself very close to that of the last Series 3, always slightly oriented towards the driver. It is characterized by a multimedia screen that can reach 10 inches while the instrumentation can be 100% digital with a basic graphic and not necessarily very clear. The presentation may seem traditional but the quality of the materials is impeccable.
