Blumbergs: KNAB’s call to accuse Kalnmeier is an unpleasant signal – Criminal news – News

Mr Blumberg emphasized that no one could be held guilty until he had been found guilty by a court. The Saeima deputy also pointed out that the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding the KNAB’s initiative has yet to be awaited.

The Vice-President of the Commission said that this situation was an unpleasant signal, given that it was the case of the former Prosecutor General, who had all the necessary tolerances for restricted information. If the information at the disposal of the KNAB were confirmed, it would not create a good reputation in connection with the previous work of the said official, Blumbergs pointed out, at the same time emphasizing that no person can be held guilty until found by a court.

The Member has learned about this case from publicly available information and it has not been discussed in the commission so far. Blumbergs admits that this issue could be discussed in the commission in the future with the Prosecutor General Yuri Stukāns, who could comment on it more.

As reported, without mentioning the names of the persons, the KNAB confirmed to LETA that on Tuesday the bureau handed over the materials of the criminal case to the Prosecutor General’s Office, urging to initiate criminal prosecution against one former and one current Prosecutor General’s Office for possible violation of the Criminal Law.

The information at the disposal of the agency LETA shows that the KNAB has initiated criminal proceedings against Kalnmeier in connection with the disclosure of undisclosed information.

Kalnmeiers himself indicated to Latvian Television (LTV) that he did not comment on anything. The unofficial information available to LTV shows that KNAB Kalnmeieru is being prosecuted in connection with the leak of information in a criminal case involving Zinaīda Egle, prosecutor of the Jelgava Prosecutor’s Office, in which KNAB is investigating bribery, bribery and disclosure of undisclosed information.

LTV is unofficially aware that shortly before the end of his term of office, Kalnmeiers disclosed information about the procedural activities related to the Egle case to several prosecutors, one of whom – Chief Prosecutor of the Methodology Department Elita Jurkjāne – passed it on to his wife Juris Jurkjāns. Through him, the information has reached the lawyer Ieva Cīrule, who together with the prosecutor Egli figures in the bribery episode of this process.

On July 11, the term of office of the Prosecutor General of Kalnmeier expired, and he was replaced by the new Prosecutor General Stukāns.
