Bluebird’s Rooftop Solar Power Plant (PLTS) in Jakarta: Reducing 2,000 Tons of Carbon Emissions per Year

Jakarta

PT Blue Bird Tbk (BIRD) installed a Rooftop Solar Power Plant (PLTS) at the Bluebird Head Office, South Jakarta. The smart solar panel system has a power of 215.6 kilowatt peak (kWp) which is projected to reduce more than 2,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.

Deputy Director of PT Blue Bird Tbk Adrianto Djokosoetono said the implementation of the solar panels was in line with Bluebird’s commitment to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030. In this way, it is hoped that it can improve environmental quality through the implementation of the 3R (reduce, reuse, recycle) initiative.

“Hopefully this will have a positive effect on all of us, especially as Jakarta always gets more attention regarding its pollution,” said Adrianto at the inauguration of the PLTS Roof at Bluebird Head Office, South Jakarta, Tuesday (13/6/2023).

Bluebird has planned to implement solar panel initiatives since the launch of the company’s sustainability vision last year which coincided with Earth Day. His party realizes that reducing emissions to make air quality healthier can be done in various ways, one of which is by implementing a clean energy transition by utilizing sunlight which is projected to reduce 2,000 tons of carbon emissions.

“Did we take the initiative to increase (installation of PLTS)? Yes, of course it depends on PLN and the contractors who are building it. The blessing from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is certain to knock on the hammer as much as possible,” said Adrianto.

The mission of reducing carbon emissions by Bluebird is in line with the government’s efforts through the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (ESDM) stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 concerning the 2019 National Energy Policy which targets a renewable energy mix of 23% by 2025.

In this case Bluebird is collaborating with SUN Energy to supply clean energy to Bluebird’s operational areas and offices. The cooperation between the two is carried out in a partnership manner, in which Bluebird pays approximately IDR 2 billion every month.

“Just as an illustration, the investment for solar panels is around Rp. 10 billion for 1 megabyte. Meanwhile, Bluebird is around 215 kWp, more or less around Rp. 2 billion,” said Main Director of SUN Energy Roy Wijaya on the same occasion.
