New Shepard Rocket owned by Blue origin crashed shortly after takeoff from launch site one in West Texas on Monday (9/12) morning. The rocket for the NS-23 mission carried only experimental and technological payloads, so there were no casualties.
About a minute after takeoff, the New Shepard rocket was seen breathing fire to the bottom. The capsule on top of the rocket disengaged immediately after starting the capsule’s emergency system.
The problem occurred as the rocket was flying at 1,126 km / h at an altitude of approximately 28,000 feet. The anomaly occurs when the rocket experiences maximum aerodynamic pressure or MaxQ.

After the anomaly occurred, the New Shepard rocket immediately crashed into the desert area, causing no injuries or damage. The capsule, which had flown at an altitude of 37,000 feet, then returned to the ground using a parachute.
“We responded to the problem this morning at our Launch Site One location in West Texas. The capsule’s emergency release system is working as expected,” Blue Origin said in a tweet on Twitter, as quoted by Gizmodo, Tuesday (9 / 13/2022)).
NS-23 mission launched by Blue origin carrying 36 payloads of which nearly half are NASA experiments. The rocket and the Blue Origin capsule are expected to carry this payload to an altitude of 100km, or what is commonly known as the Karman line.
The capsule used in this mission, the RSS HG Wells, was used only for unmanned missions and is dedicated to transporting experimental cargo and equipment at a suborbital altitude. But the New Shepard rocket carrying the rocket is the same rocket that Blue Origin used to take tourists into space.
This is the first time that the space company created by Jeff Bezos has suffered a terrible accident while launching a New Shepard rocket. Till now, Blue origin has transported 31 tourists into space since July 2021, including Bezos and actor William Shatner.
The accident will be investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration. Blue Origin is prevented from flying the New Shepard rocket until the investigation is complete.
