For years, emblematic dates such as Mother’s Day have left excellent figures in terms of economy; However, this 2020 will be a “black year” for several sectors in the country, due to the coronavirus.

José Manuel López Campos, President of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco-Servytur), revealed that the economic losses will be more reflected in the dates where normally more was earned.

“Shortly before phase 2 of the health contingency began, as of April 30, it is calculated that 449,236 million pesos were no longer received, to which would be added the losses that will be due to the lack of commercial activity on the next 10 May, according to information from the organization and data from the Inegi, “López Campos told the newspaper Millennium.

The president of the Concanaco-Servytur announced that the sectors most affected during this year will be travel agencies, restaurants, leisure centers, hotels and service centers, among others, since they registered red numbers due to the impact left by the closure of businesses throughout Mexico.

And is that next Sunday May 10 there will be no hugs, kisses and much less dinners or lunches in a restaurant, so a loss of up to 36,000 million pesos in the commercial sector.

Regarding sales at celebrations this year, it is estimated that they will decrease by 68.4 billion pesos, since Children’s Day was expected 20,400 million pesos, while for Mother’s Day the expectation was 48,000 million pesos.

López Campos reiterated that businesses that sell online could register between 20 and 25% of the spill that was expected during the dates of celebration.

For its part, the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac), through the president of the Restaurant Chains, Germán González, recognized that Mother’s Day is the best date of the year for its members.

He stressed that during that date, sales increased up to 300%, marking a national scale of 1,500 million pesos; However, now it will be different, since now the drop in sales in the formal sector reaches 90%, a trend that will repeat on May 10.

Therefore, the idea of this sector is to re-schedule the date and celebrate moms for October 10.

“Nobody in their right mind will take their mother to eat at a restaurant, let alone seek to reunite the family, therefore, we are planning to relaunch on May 10, a Different mothers day, and we propose ‘10 of 10 ’, that is, postpone the celebration for health but celebrate October 10,” he said.

He closed his restaurant due to the coronavirus

In early April, Alejandra Boites, owner of the restaurant El Sazón de los Boites, located in the Iztapalapa delegation, commented to Infobae México that the situation is critical, to the extent that apart from closing their business, they also suspended home deliveries, since they did not even go out to invest again.

“I tell you with sadness, but above all with uncertainty, because we do not know what will happen to our seasoning.”

Alejandra Boites says that they were very successful for many weeks, until the coronavirus hit, which has affected various businesses and establishments nationwide, sales were deteriorating and taking out more than 10,000 pesos every weekend (Saturday and Sunday), now they no longer have the money to buy the essentials.
