Blood is made up of

  • Nutrients (sugar, lipids and vitamins)
  • Metabolic and waste products (e.g. urea and uric acid)

The blood transports them nutrient to the cells that Metabolic and waste products from the cells to the corresponding excretion sites.

The cells of the blood are differentiated into

  • Erythrocytes (red blood cells)
  • Leukocytes (white blood cells)
  • Platelets (blood platelets)

The red color of the blood comes from the oxygen-binding part of the hemoglobin: the heme group.
