Little by little, the stretchers fill up, and so do the pockets. In Falaise (Calvados), mobilization is important to donate blood. Several nurses take care of the donors. Among them, Stéphanie, who relies on her experience to reassure those who donate blood. To avoid crowds, each person had to make an appointment, motivated by solidarity. “One day, it may be me who will need it. We think of others, it is especially for that”, explains a donor. The French Blood Establishment organizes 40,000 blood drives every year and the reserves are not sufficient at the start of the year. More than 110,000 bags are needed. Only 78,000 are available. “What must be understood is that blood needs are daily needs. We need 10,000 donations every day,” explains Dr Nathalie Callé.
