Despite the Covid 19 pandemic, the French Blood Establishment and the Rilliarde association “Sang pour la Vie” are organizing a blood drive this Wednesday, June 3. And, they gave themselves a goal. “Achieving a record fundraising, such is our ambition” indicates Paul Peyraverney, an active volunteer.
“It is true that today, there is a significant drop in donors. But, let people be reassured. Donating blood is not incompatible with the pandemic. It is enough to respect the protocol in place. Barrier gestures, physical distancing, and hygiene rules ”explains Anna Josephsson, communication officer at the EFS.
1400 bags of blood needed every day
Regarding the Covid, Marie Odile Massardier, head of collection planning at the EFS, gives important new elements while respecting a rule of three. “If you are vaccinated, No restriction on donating blood without delay. If you are in contact, you will have to abstain for 14 days after the contact. After Covid disease, you will need to abstain 6 weeks from the first symptoms. It should be noted that 1,400 bags of blood per day are necessary to meet the needs of patients in our region.
