Blizzard will pull the plug on its first Overwatch game on October 2nd – Games – News

Blizzard will shut down the servers of the original Overwatch game from 2016 on October 2, 2016. This will happen 27 hours before Overwatch 2 hits the market. The second part is therefore the only playable Overwatch title.

Of commercial lead by Blizzard, Jon Spector, confirmation to Eurogamer that October 2nd is the last day the original Overwatch can be played. As Spector talks about the Pacific time zone, it is possible that European players will still be able to play for a few hours on October 3rd. After that, it will take about 27 hours to get the Overwatch 2 servers up and running.

Overwatch players will have the option to pre-download Overwatch 2 prior to launch. If the first Overwatch is still installed, the option to upgrade to Overwatch 2 will automatically appear on startup on PC and console after Part 2 is released.

Overwatch 2 will be released on October 4th for PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, and unlike the original game, it will be free-to-play from day one. The game becomes with new content every nine weeks. To get all that content, you need a season pass. The first season ends on December 6th.
