Rotterdam Zoo Blijdorp will open its doors again on May 20. That is more than a week earlier than expected. As a test, a maximum of 150 employees and family members can already enter on Saturday to test the facilities and route directions that have been installed.

On May 20, the zoo will open for 500 season ticket holders, then for day visitors. It is not clear when that is exactly. According to Blijdorp, it can take several weeks, and even then it is about half the normal capacity; about 5 thousand people a day. The number of subscription holders allowed to enter will rise to a thousand later.
In addition to route directions, other corona measures have also been taken. For example, tickets for Blijdorp can only be bought online and the arrival time must be reserved to avoid crowds at the entrance.
“We are very happy that we can start up again,” says director Erik Zevenbergen. According to him, Blijdorp is easy to combine with the one and a half meter society. “We have no less than 28 hectares of beautiful nature and many outdoor areas. This makes it easy to spread out the people.”
After the trial with employees, there is also testing with volunteers, Friends of Blijdorp, important relations and partners.
