Blamage for CDA: party top did not see Sigrid Kaag resignation, Hoekstra was ‘totally robbed’

The party leaders of the CDA did not foresee that Sigrid Kaag would resign from her position if the motion of censure would get a majority. CDA insiders say that the party top was in shock on Thursday after it was announced that Kaag would stop. Which may explain the ‘slow decision’ of CDA minister Ank Bijleveld.

The resignation of D66 leader Sigrid Kaag as minister has surprised the CDA. The party leadership did not expect the D66 politician to do this. While their own minister had indicated the day before that he would stay, Kaag decided to stop. What caused a crisis situation at the CDA, which reports of NOS.

It makes painfully clear that CDA has no judgment at all. While Kaag was highly regarded by some after her ‘brave’ decision, the frustration among Dutch people and CDA members was great about the stay of Ank Bijleveld.

Those involved report that Bijleveld was not aware of the planned resignation of the D66 leader, outgoing Prime Minister Rutte was only informed an hour before Kaag’s resignation. Which strongly suggests that D66 deliberately left the CDA groping in the dark.

Due to Bijleveld’s late resignation, many people thought that she had resigned her position under pressure from the party leadership. But it is different; the CDA was simply completely surprised by Kaag’s action. Which, of course, may be described as political amateurism.

Many Dutch people were not pleased with Rutte when he remained seated after the motion of censure. Kaag already announced at the time that she would resign in the event of a motion of censure. Well, she kept her word.

The fact that the CDA is surprised by Kaag’s resignation shows that the party leadership has no idea what is going on. The powerful party of yesteryear has too often ridiculed itself in recent months.
