Kane is currently in the final season of his eight-year contract he signed with the Blackhawks on July 9, 2014. Kane and team captain Jonathan Toves, who both helped Chicago win the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013 and 2015, are currently involved in several potential trade talks as the trade deadline approaches. The 34-year-old forward has played his entire 16-season NHL career with the Blackhawks, but the team has been rebuilding in recent years and is not competitive this season either.
It has already been reported that on February 10, the “Blues” and “Rangers” made a trade, as a result of which Niko Mikula and one of the leaders of the attack of St. Louis Tarasenko went to “Rangers”, but the “Blues” team got Sammy Blay, Hunter Skinner and two draft choices.
“It’s not the nicest thing I’ve heard, because Rangers are a team I’m definitely paying attention to, for obvious reasons. If anything was to happen, the Rangers were the team I was definitely looking towards. It seems they filled their void and moved forward with another deal. So it is what it is,” said the long-time leader of the Chicago unit, pointing to Tarasenko, whom the New York team acquired from the Blues.
Kane revealed he will continue to speak with his agent, Pat Brisson, about potential trade options. “Talks happen every day,” the forward said. “You know, just trying to sort things out and probably make a decision in the next couple of weeks.”
It is indicated that “Rangers” considered the asking price for Kane too high, and the management of the New York club had legitimate concerns about the striker’s injury. Kane missed three games earlier this season with a lower-body injury. On January 12, the hockey player himself revealed that the injury is related to the tormenting “problem” that has not left him since the 2020 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Kane, who was selected by the “Blackhawks” in the 2007 NHL draft with the first number, is playing his 16th season in the world’s strongest hockey league this season. The American scored nine goals and provided 26 assists in 47 games this season, currently sharing the honor of the team’s top scorer with Max Domi. Kane has a career total of 439 goals and 1,215 assists in 1,155 games, ranking second on the Blackhawks all-time scoring list.
