Bishop Bernhard Day in Dringenberg enriched with creative ideas – children get a special game: A place celebrates its founder – Höxter district

Proof of the creativity in Burgdorf: this year, in addition to traditional pastries, the children also received a self-designed Bishop Bernhard game.

“Bishop Bernhard, with great honor – let us keep him at all times. Our thanks should increase even more – every year at any time. We thank Bishop Bernhard, we will honor him all our lives. «This first verse of the Bishop Bernhard song has surely been sung by every child in Dringenberg. And it clearly shows that the founder’s legacy is still present in the village today as it has ever been – with all generations of the castle village, and not least in the primary school. “It is important to us that the children can experience the history of the place and the region through various activities,” emphasizes elementary school director Sabine Kabiersch-Diekmann. Guided tours to historically important places in the village had to be canceled this year due to the pandemic, but the traditional biscuits were distributed again – quite simply during the corona-compliant handover of the weekly tasks, for which the children always come to school on Fridays.

In addition, this time there was a real highlight for all kindergarten and school children: Sandra Mönnikes and Frank Ziegeroski had designed the new Bischof Bernhard game themselves, making the children particularly happy. “A wonderful idea in these difficult times”, says Sabine Kabiersch-Diekmann: “In this dice game you are on the way from Dringenberg to Paderborn and have to solve various tasks. It’s also great that you can first put together and paint a few things yourself. ”It is generally impressive that the will of the city founder is still being lived after many centuries. And: “It is particularly important that the children are involved. You will not only get the attention you deserve in the pandemic season, you will also learn how important our history is as the basis for our future. ”

The traditional feast in the tithe barn with the district administrator, mayor, association chairman and board members also had to be canceled this year, but district committee chairman Meinolf Tewes and mayor Burkhard Deppe insisted on candles in the church together with Father Daniel-Maria Brun to ignite. “We absolutely wanted to keep this custom – combined with the Blasion blessing – upheld. It’s nice that the mayor is with us every year on this special day, ”said Tewes.

After Bishop Bernhard V zur Lippe had acquired the Free County of Dringen from Count zu Everstein in 1316, he cleared the mountain spur, which was 298 meters above sea level, in 1318 and built the castle there until 1323. As a result, the first settlers soon found themselves at the foot of the hill – this is how the village of Dringenberg emerged around the same time. When Dringenberg received the extended town charter in 1330, Bernhard had ordered that a Holy Mass should be celebrated on the anniversary of his burial – the Dringenbergers were to pray zealously for the salvation of the founding bishop’s soul. The prince-bishop was buried on February 2nd 680 years ago. All Dringenberg dignitaries and officials should come together for a meal and remember him.
