A couple from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, had imagined the birth of their second child a little differently. Thirty-three-year-old Yieran experienced her first labor that night, but knew she would have some time left. In the morning she did the laundry, her three-year-old son was supposed to be driven to preschool by her husband Keating, reports “The Philadelphia Inquirer“.
But shortly before departure, her water burst. Keating knew immediately: now it has to be quick. With her son in the back seat, the journey to the nearby hospital began. But the traffic made the actually 20-minute drive seem endless.

Birth in a Tesla: a man helps his wife thanks to the autopilot
In order to be able to support his wife, the 34-year-old switched the Tesla to autopilot. Yieran’s contractions got worse and worse, now only a minute apart. He tried to calm himself down, his son and his wife. Everyone knew that a child could be born at any moment.
And indeed: when the family stopped in front of the hospital with their car, the time had come. Yieran whisper: “Oh my god, she’s there!” Fortunately, a doctor was at hand to help the new mother with her baby. Nurses also came to the rescue to cut the umbilical cord while still in the car. Then the doctor confirms that her daughter is healthy.
“Tesla Baby” is alive and well
The news about the “Tesla baby” spread rapidly in the hospital and the happy parents thought for a brief moment about the middle name “Tess” for the little girl. But in the end they just wanted to keep the car: “I wouldn’t be surprised if the little one later gets her driver’s license in this car,” said Yieran.
