The figures are currently on the rise again. Not entirely unexpected, says Molenberghs. “We now need to absorb two things at once: the return of the last travelers from vacation and the reopening of the schools,” he says. “At the same time, many workshops are now fully reopening.”
Moreover, there is now a lot of testing and that drives the numbers up. “At the end of July and the beginning of August, there were Antwerp neighborhoods where we spoke of 30 to 50 percent positive tests. Now we continue to fluctuate around one and a half to 5 percent,” he says. “So we test a lot of people now. A lot of people who come back from red zones, get tested, which is very good. And the majority test negative.”
