Thirty-seven new “Territories committed to nature” have been recognized in Occitania. Among them, two towns in the Gard: Nîmes and Blandas as well as the agglomeration community of Alès.

“Territories committed to nature” (TEN) is a flagship action of the biodiversity plan. This label aims to recognize the territories whose commitments reflect a process of progress in favor of biodiversity. The initiative was piloted in 2020 by the State services (DREAL), the Occitanie Region, the French Biodiversity Office and the Adour-Garonne and Rhône-Méditerranée-Corse water agencies. The Occitanie Regional Biodiversity Agency (ARB) ensured its deployment in the region.

The communities recognized as “Territories committed to nature” will be part of the TEN Occitanie network and will benefit from the resources of numerous national and regional partners as well as the experiences of other communities committed to bringing about and carrying out actions in favor of biodiversity.

Each territory presents three equity securities. In Nîmes, the projects consist of setting up the Platform of Actors and Actions for Biodiversity (PAAB) in partnership with the Gard CPIE or even improving the town’s agricultural and horticultural practices. On the Alès Agglo side, for example, we want to fight against heat islands by disartificalising the soils, and in Blandas, we want to restore the habitats crossed by the path of discovery and interpretation.
