In the area of the elongated green belt between the Darmbach bed and the city ring road in front of the darmstadtium, which was redesigned in March, the gaps have now been filled by replanting various sedum plants and other species adapted to drought. In addition, flower bulbs of predominantly native species have been planted, so that people and insects can enjoy the flowers next spring.

Head of the Environment Department Michael Kolmer welcomes the pledge: “Almost 4,000 flower bulbs have been planted in total. This small area not only contributes to greater biological diversity, but also to a better urban climate. Furthermore, plant species have been selected that can survive without irrigation even in the very hot summer months. Almost all of the varieties are indigenous and should be used not only to watch but also to imitate for the people of Darmstadt in their gardens. “

Lars Wöhler, managing director of the darmstadtium, is also satisfied: “Many employees are happy to be involved in more nature in the city and have found a meaningful and beautiful project with this campaign.”

More information on plant species and lists can be found on the Darmstadt City of Science website www.darmstadt.de/leben-in-darmstadt/umwelt/naturschutz-und-biologische-vielfalt.
