Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) and Chief Executive of the Covid-19 Handling Committee and National Economic Recovery Erick Thohir ensured that PT Bio Farma (Persero) could produce Covid-19 vaccine with a capacity of 250 million doses per year in stages.
“Today I make sure Bio Farma is now ready to produce 100 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine per year and at the end of the year it is ready to produce 250 million doses per year,” Erick said in his press release on Tuesday (4/8/2020).
This certainty was given after he conducted a laboratory review and Bio Farma vaccine production facilities in Bandung, West Java.
This visit was also to ensure the readiness of phase 3 clinical trials for Covid-19 vaccine candidates in collaboration with Sinovac, a biotechnology company from China.
He said one of the focuses of the committee he was leading at the moment was to double the availability of vaccines and treatment therapies which were the most crucial needs for pandemic countermeasures.
To that end, he entrusts these efforts to Bio Farma, which has been a vaccine producer since 1890 and controls the market share of polio vaccines by up to 75% worldwide. The vaccine produced by Bio Farma has also been marketed in 150 countries in the world for 15 types of vaccines that it produces.

“Let us believe in the ability of the nation itself. Do not doubt the ability of Bio Farma which has been tested, both to produce vaccines produced in collaboration with other countries as well as pure vaccines by Bio Farma itself. This is the work of the nation’s children. We maximize the clinical trials and production of Covid vaccine “So that the community can be immunized next year,” he continued.
Not to forget he also reminded the public to obey the Covid-19 protocol in all activities carried out, namely wearing masks, washing hands, and keeping a distance.
