Bill Gates questions Elon Musk’s goal of annexing Twitter

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, is one step away from annexing Twitter’s $44 billion. This corporate action was commented on by Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

Speaking at the Wall Street Journal CEO Summit on Wednesday (4/5/2022), Bill Gates questioned how Elon Musk would change Twitter if he took 100% of the microblogging’s social media stake. As well as raising concerns about the spread of misinformation on social media platforms

On the one hand, the Microsoft founder admits Elon Musk’s track record in technology companies is impressive, he even praised the success of Tesla and SpaceX as amazing.

Bill Gates said he believes Elon Musk has done a great job of putting together a great team of engineers at those companies.

“I kind of doubt it will happen this time, but we have to be open-minded and never underestimate Elon Musk,” he said as quoted by CNBC International, Thursday (5/5/2022).

Bill Gates, who has been replaced by Elon Musk as the world’s richest man in recent years, questioned what Elon Musk’s goals with Twitter were and how promoting free speech made sense.

What is the purpose for what is the end? Does it fit into the notion of a less extreme falsehood that spreads so quickly [dan] Weird conspiracy theory? Does he share that goal or not?,” Gates said.

In recent weeks, Elon Musk has hinted at several possible ways he might improve Twitter beyond promoting free speech. On Tuesday night, for example, he suggested that he start charging companies a small fee for using the platform.
