US President Joe Biden will meet virtually with leaders of Australia, Japan and India on Friday, March 12. The purpose of the meeting is to confirm the desire of the new US administration to re-establish close ties with Washington’s traditional allies. The summit will also serve as a message to China, which is increasingly aggressively trying to increase its global influence.
This will be the first joint meeting of US President Joe Biden with Indian Prime Minister Narendre Mod, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Josihidi Sugu.
A number of issues are planned to be discussed at the remote meeting, including the fight against the Covid-19 coronavirus, economic cooperation and the climate crisis.
The United States, India, Japan and Australia are seen as a potential counterweight to China’s growing economic and military influence in the Asia-Pacific region.
