Biden approves arms sales to the Emirates

Included in the sale are new F-35 fighter jets, drones and other munitions worth more than 23 billion dollars, equivalent to just over 195 billion kroner, writes Reuters.

The administration is continuing with the sale while they “continue to go through details and have consultations” with officials from the Emirates, says a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In January, Biden halted arms sales to several countries, including the Emirates and Saudi Arabia, pending a review of the agreements reached by its predecessor Donald Trump. The planned delivery is in 2025.

Some of the president’s party colleagues have criticized the Emirates for the role the country plays in the war in Yemen. The conflict is described by the UN as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
