Bicycle fair Bike Motion in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht is canceled this year due to a shortage of bicycles, reports the organization behind the event Tuesday. Due to the high demand and problems in the supply of two-wheelers, the organization does not see a possibility for a full event.
Since the start of the corona pandemic, the demand for bicycles has risen sharply. There were also long delivery times for parts, because factories could not run completely. As a result, the cycling event in 2021 was canceled either. Exhibitors were unable to show the latest products at the fair.
That will also be the case this year, the organization writes. “Despite the confirmations of a number of great brands and inspiring speakers, we were very disappointed to decide to reschedule the event for another year.”
Even now, the great demand for bicycles is the biggest problem, says Esther Driessen of the Jaarbeurs RTV Utrecht. In addition, manufacturers are still having problems with supplying parts “due to, among other things, the situation in Ukraine”, she told the regional broadcaster. Bicycles that are delivered go directly to the consumer, which affects the stock exchange.
Bike Motion was planned for next autumn, but is therefore expected to take place in the autumn of 2023. The organization hopes to attract 30,000 cycling enthusiasts.
