Selina Gasparin ends the biathlon season on a high note. The Sochi silver medalist finished second in Kontiolahti’s pursuit.
The Graubünden, almost 36 years old, she will celebrate them on April 3, climbed for the fifth time in her career on a World Cup podium. During the 2013-14 Olympic season, she notably won two sprint victories in Grand-Bornand and Hochfilzen. She still has two second individual places in Sochi and Anterselva in January 2016.
On the podium, despite four rounds of penalties
This mother of two started tenth after the sprint. The wind disrupted operations on the launch pad. That didn’t stop Selina Gasparin from getting on the podium despite four penalty laps. La Grisonne conceded 17 seconds to the winner, the Frenchwoman Julia Simon.
Disappointing at the last World Championships in Anterselva, the eldest of the Gasparin sisters finished ahead of Lisa Vittozzi and the Finnish Kaisa Mäkäräinen who chose to retire.
Dorothea Wierer wins the general classification
Italian Dorothea Wierer wins the general classification of the World Cup. Note that before the last shot, the Norwegian Tiril Eckhoff had temporarily taken the lead in a breathless final.
