Paris Fashion Week saw Kanye West’s wife, Bianca Censori, turning heads once again with her audacious fashion statement. The renowned 29-year-old model, recognised for her association with West’s Yeezy brand, has often courted controversy with her bold outfit choices. However, this time, her boundary-pushing attire in France may potentially violate French decency laws.
The repercussions of French decency laws
Censori’s choice of attire in France has raised concerns due to Article 222-32 of the French Penal Code, enacted in March 1994. The article states that “Deliberate sexual display in the sight of others in a place accessible to the public gaze is punishable by one year in prison and a fine of one hundred thousand francs.” Notably, the law specifically exempts naturism in designated areas from any charges.
It is worth mentioning that the couple faced a £10,000 fine in 2023 for walking in a similarly “almost naked” state in public in Italy. At that time, the Italian Constitutional Court had granted them the option to either pay the fine or serve jail time.
The masterminds behind Censori’s daring outfits
Insiders from Kanye West’s fashion projects have revealed the involvement of West’s dedicated Italian design team in creating outfits for both himself and Censori. This specific incident also highlights West’s collaboration with London-based designer of Nigerian descent, Mowalola Ogunlesi, for the Yeezy Gap collection. Ogunlesi emphasized that Censori plays an influential role in the outfits, stating, “She (Bianca) has a lot to say in what she wants to wear. Everything Bianca is wearing is really from her and Ye’s brains. They want to show people that you can do this yourself. It’s stuff that’s attainable – tights. With tights, you can cut them and sew it – if it doesn’t work out you can put on another pair.”
