So far, it has only gone in one direction: coach Roel Moors to Bonn, shooting star Till Pape to the Telekom Baskets and yesterday the Norwegian guard Harald Frey from the basketball Bundesliga club BG Göttingen also moved to the former federal capital.
Göttingen – But this time it also goes in the other direction. Zachary Christopher Ensminger (22) is moving to BG Göttingen from the Rhinelanders, who came first in the main round last season and won the Champions League.
Ensminger? There was something? Sure: Ensminger’s father Chris (49, 2.09 m) is one of the absolute BBL legends in the 1st division, who played for several German first division teams (Bonn, Bamberg, MBC, Paderborn) from 1999 to 2013. With Zachary “Zach” Ensminger, a new, quite prominent name comes to the violets, with whom he signed a two-year contract.
“Zach is a young, talented guard who can play both the first and second positions,” said BG coach Olivier Foucart. “He’s a good size, a very good shooter and can create from the pick and roll. He is also a solid defender and always plays with positive energy both defensively and offensively. But it is much more important that he has the right attitude and fits the BG values.”
The BG newcomer was used 30 times for the Bonn team in the BBL last season and was on the floor for an average of eight minutes. Ensminger played five games in the Champions League. In his youth, Ensminger played in Bonn, Jena, Gotha (“Rookie of the Year”) and Ulm, where he also made his debut in the BBL. In 2021 he won the title “Youngster of the Season” at second division club Quakenbrück.
“I had very good discussions with Coach Foucart and have only heard positive things about the club, the fans and the city. I think I fit well into the system and I’m looking forward to working with him and the whole team every day,” says Ensminger. “It’s important for me to have the chance to be on the field and to develop in training and in the game. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans and experience the great atmosphere in the hall.”
. The Veilchen squad for the 2023/24 season currently includes Peter Hemschemeier, Mathis Mönninghoff, Karlis Silins, Harper Kamp, Osaro Jürgen Rich, Bodie Hume and Zachary Ensminger. (haz/gsd)
