Würzburg – BG Göttingen could not take the momentum from the cup win in Frankfurt to Würzburg. At the Mainfranken the violets conceded the first away defeat in the basketball Bundesliga after the home defeat against Braunschweig, lost in front of 2900 spectators with 75:90 (38:51). The performance gap in the team was too great, and the Göttingen defensive performance was too weak.

Despite the first points in Würzburg, it was a good start for the BGers! Terry Allen scored the first five points and after four minutes the violets were 11: 5 ahead because Allen converted the first three of the guests. Dominik Lockhart netted the second three to 14: 9. After five and a half minutes, Elias Lasisi came on his first assignment after his adductor injury. Darius Carter scored at 18:13, Lasisi was unsuccessful in his first two attempts. The final phase of the first quarter belonged to the Mainfranken, who came through the strong playmaker Jordan Hulls in a threesome to 21:20 after the first quarter.

Florian Koch opened the second section with the fourth Würzburg threesome. The game had turned, now the home side always gave points, while the violets ran after. Coach Roijakkers reacted to the next three of Hulls with the first break. But the Würzburg stayed on the pusher, benefiting from their strength of three, especially from Hulls. Göttingen opposed Terry Allen, who had already marked 15 points after 15 minutes. Roijakkers’ next break and Lockhart’s third foul – it was no longer running for the BGers. The hosts, on the other hand, in the “points flow”, they continued to meet and continue because the Göttingen defenders were too careless. Würzburg repeatedly came to free throws, it was a feast for them. Carter reduced at least to 38:51 with a three-point game. Würzburg won the second quarter 30:18, had strong break rates: two 61 percent (53% of the BG), three 70 percent (BG 31%) plus 19:12 rebounds.

The BG got off to a better start in the second half. Carter and Allen scored at 42:51, but shortly afterwards Lasisi was “picked” (blocked) – an unfortunate BG debut, although in the 25th minute he marked his first points with a threesome. In the 26th minute, the BG was on five points (50:55), but as a result Würzburg continued its offensive spectacle. The BG won the third quarter 20:18, but was behind with eleven points (58:69).

Lower Franconia maintained their lead in the final round with more than ten points. The BG tried, but with only four strong players there was simply nothing more. Only Anderson, Hundt, Carter and especially Allen were able to convince. Far too few impulses came from the five other BGs from the Nine rotation. 3:13 minutes before the end, the game was interrupted for several minutes because the display cubes above the baskets did not work. In the remaining minutes nothing changed, the 90: 75 victory of the Würzburg was well deserved.

Lockhart 3, Waterman (n.e.), Anderson 14, Lasisi 3, Kramer 8, Omuvwie (n.e.), Carter 16, Andric, Mönninghoff, Allen 21, Hundt 10, Bryant (n.e.).

Hulls 24, Koch 19, Wells 13, Fischer 12.
