Singer Beyoncé has been recognized for her humanitarian commitment at this year’s BET Awards. The former First Lady Michelle Obama gave the eulogy for the 38-year-old musician at the award ceremony on Sunday (local time). In her acceptance speech, Beyoncé called on her fans – probably also with a view to the upcoming presidential election in November – to vote.

“We have to choose as if our lives depend on it because it does,” Beyoncé has been quoted in several US media. According to this, the singer is said to have received the award for her initiative “BeyGOOD”, among other things, with which students are supported.

Every year, alongside musicians, the BET Awards also recognize actors and athletes who belong to an ethnic minority. In addition to Beyoncé, this year the winners included singer Lizzo, group Migos and musician Chris Brown. The best actor was again Michael B. Jordan (“Black Panther”).
