In patients with dengue fever they experience fever that goes up and down

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA–Dengue fever or Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is currently still a tropical disease that can be fatal if treated too late. Fever caused by dengue mosquitoes is not like ordinary fever which can disappear on its own when the fever goes down.

What is often found, in patients with dengue fever they experience a fever that goes up and down, when the fever goes down it can indicate a critical phase, especially if there is a significant decrease in platelets.

Internal Medicine Specialist Sari Asih Hospital Ciputat, South Tangerang City, dr. Laras Budiyani, SpPD, explained that the sufferer DBD those whose fever has gone down can still experience a decrease in platelets and plasma leakage which is marked by an increase in hematocrit to a decrease in blood pressure. For example, if you are elderly or have a heart problem, it will make your condition worse,” said dr. Laras Budiyani, SpPD.

In general, according to dr. Laras Budiyani, SpPD, DHF sufferers experience several phases, starting with fever until it enters the 7th day, then subsides and enters the recovery phase. Recovery can be done with medical therapy according to the condition experienced by the patient.

“In the recovery phase, it is recommended to drink enough fluids to prevent dehydration. You can get fruit juices, ORS solution, and get enough rest before doing your usual activities by consuming nutritious food,” suggested dr. Laras Budiyani, SpPD.

Diseases caused by the dengue mosquito virus can generally be treated by medical services, however, Dr Laras Budiyani, SpPD, warns that if the patient has impaired consciousness, this can be due to other causes such as shock, severe liver disorders, electrolyte disturbances or bleeding occurs due to too low platelets. “Different conditions also determine the recovery process for DHF patients,” said dr. Laras Budiyani, SpPD.
