Snapchat is, once again, a pioneer
One of the few platforms that already has a voice search feature is Snapchat. The platform brought the function Voice scan as an extension of their scanning function. This way, users can find filters suitable for the objects the camera is pointing at. In addition to fun effects and context-relevant GIFs, arithmetic problems can also be solved with proper math filters. The voice option allows you to search for suitable filters not only with a visual scan, but also via voice search. It is not the first time that Snapchat paves the way for new social features: the platform was also a pioneer in the AR field and with the map search function.
Are Instagram and Co. following suit?
It is unclear how many users already have access to the new feature. There hasn’t been any official announcement from TikTok so far, so not much is known about the feature. If the voice search platform were to be implemented extensively and the feature was well received by users, it is not unlikely that other platforms, especially Instagram, will follow suit. The competitor’s app has copied numerous TikTok features over time.
