Bethesda withdraws games from GeForce Now

After Activision Blizzard, it’s Bethesda’s turn to end GeForce Now, Nvidia’s cloud gaming service that recently moved to the commercial stage.

Cloud gaming is going through complicated months. And it’s certainly not Bethesda’s recent decision that will help the technology take off. On February 22, Nvidia declared in a short press release the publisher’s games have been removed from service GeForce Now – launched a few days ago. Bethesda finally follows in the footsteps of Activision Blizzard.

Oddly, a title will remain accessible via GeForce Now, namely the very recent Wolfenstein: Youngblood (RTX compatible for those who have opted for the paid formula). Numerama has asked Bethesda for details on this complicated strategy to analyze and we are awaiting a response, but the deal RTX, which involves a partnership with Nvidia, may have weighed.

Bethesda leaves GeForce Now in turn

Because of Bethesda, GeForce Now users still have to say goodbye to titles like Dishonored (and its continuation), the reboot of Doom, Rage 2, the Fallout, the much appreciated The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim or the last Wolfenstein. Affected parties may continue to play it through the platforms on which they purchased them (Steam, Bethesda.net).

Nvidia has apparently anticipated the distrust of certain publishers. February 20, on the occasion ofan article on the evolution of the catalog, the builder announced: ” As we get closer to a paid service, some publishers may choose to withdraw games before the end of the trial period [90 jours]. They retain control of their content and decide whether the game you buy is GeForce Now compatible or not. “We can see a crisis communication knowing that Nvidia welcomes the million players who agreed to participate in the adventure. In parallel, Nvidia indicated that the much anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 will be available as soon as it is released on GeForce Now (this will also be the case on Stadia).

And we have 1,500 games waiting, from publishers who share this vision of extending PC gaming to more people Asserts Nvidia who implicitly condemns the strategy of those who don’t share this vision. However, Activision Blizzard and Bethesda should not be followed by others. It is the sword of Damocles which rises above GeForce Now, very dependent on the publishers to exist.
