Bertens looked awkward in the first set. After two years on the court again in the Orange-uniform (she preferred her individual career all the time) and playing clay in the middle of the hard-court season; it resulted in 26 unnecessary errors and a sloppy tie break.
When Bertens – who is now eligible to play for the Olympic Games due to her Fed Cup participation – became more constant in the second set and made a hole, Sasnovich had less and less to say.
