On Thursday, September 10, at the meeting of Valmiera City Municipality Council, the deputies decided to support the establishment of the foundation “Bertāni Valmiera Basketball School”. In the presence of NBA and Latvian national team basketball player Dāvis Bertāns, basketball club VALMIERA GLASS VIA general manager Miks Balodis and Valmiera City Municipality Council Chairman Jānis Baiks, media representatives were informed at the press conference about the goals of the Bertāns brothers’ involvement in the Valmiera youth basketball system.
Latvian basketball stars Dāvis Bertāns and Dairis Bertāns, who have conquered the tops of the NBA and Euroleague basketball, do not forget about their homeland, where a strong foundation for their professional career has been laid. They have proven that by investing hard, it is possible to meet athletic goals and compete with the world’s best basketball masters.

Already this season, Valmiera will be represented at the Latvian Youth Championship by Bertāns Valmiera Basketball School, under the auspices of which the existing students of the basketball department of Valmiera Children’s Sports School will pass. Other professionals in the field will join the team of Valmiera youth basketball coaches, providing wider opportunities for the development of young talents. The establishment of the organization will also allow to work on attracting additional funding for raising the material and technical provision of Valmiera youth basketball. The experience and presence of the Bertans brothers will be a significant contribution to the already strong Valmiera basketball system.
